The Doctors Game 2023

This video focuses on the 'Stanway Doctor’s Grave', also referred to as, 'The Druid of Colchester’. It is unclear whether he was Celtic, Roman, a Druid, or even a doctor. Nonetheless he was buried with some interesting artefacts, including a unique game board. The grave is a first-century AD tomb discovered by archaeologists in Stanway, Essex, in 1996. This video uses the reconstruction of the ...

Heracles and the Erymanthian Boar

This animation shows the Greek hero, Heracles, carrying out some of the 12 Labours. He has just completed the quest to kill the terrible Hydra, now he is sent to catch the Erymanthian Boar. The god, Hermes, travels with him to witness his great deeds. The king who sets the Labours does not like what he sees! The animation was created from a vase made in Athens, in Greece, in the sixth century B...
Sappho Fragment 44 Polish version
Animacja powstała z wazonu wykonanego w Atenach w VI wieku p.n.e. (obecnie w Muzeum Narodowym...

Panoply Vase Animation Project Showreel
The animation uses figurative style of the much earlier Geometric period, known, among others, from the work of the Dipylon Master (Late Geometric I). It just does not fit. Superimposing it on a 6th-Century B.C. vase is totally wrong and unsatisfying. It is a perfect example of anachronism, like combining Leonardo with, say,, Giotto. Having said that, the animation itself is fantastic!
Thanks for your comment Alessandro. We used the geometric style on purpose a) to create a look of 'long ago' even for Sappho's era, and b) so it was obvious that those figures had been added onto the vase and were not part of the original. The music is a reconstruction of the tune that the poem would originally have been sung to. You can find out more about the ideas behind the animation in its companion video 'About Sappho 44', which you'll find on our page, and even more on our website panoply.org.uk/sappho
Joan of Arc. Virgin goddess of the rainbow and personal messenger of the Christian High God, Jesus, and his wife Maria Magdalena. Joan controlled Mother Nature: animals, winds, waters, and even gravity. Mark Twain wrote that Joan ran so fast the others said her feet never touched the ground. Joan brought messages from the Gods to humans. Joan carried a battle standard with the following elements on it: far right --> there was a field of Iris flowers i.e. Fleur de Lis. Center --> the words JESUS MARIA. Far left --> Jesus sitting atop the mercy seat above the Rainbow Arc of the Covenant, between 2 angels.
Bravo! The ancient Greek vase painters would definitely have approved!
This is wonderful. Is there any way of purchasing/downloading the music for Fragment 44? It's haunting & lovely.
Thanks. The ERC funded this so we can't sell the music. It is free for educational, non-commercial use. You might like the more complete version we made with Aliki Markantonatou. ruclips.net/video/QFkcmrH4XAg/видео.htmlsi=9naZf7NNWz66Ju7P

Gorgeous what you did here.
Where can I see information about the antique vase that you animated? What kind of vase, attributes, where in which museum or collection is it located. I looked through your blog on your site but didn't find anything.🤝

HYpnotic!
Truly amazing, thank you.
In Spanish, the rainbow is called _arco iris,_ Iris Arch.
Lovely.
Thank you! In Tarot, Iris is associated with the card of Temperence… this info is very helpful thank you!
What a wonderful video. Well done. The song is enchanting as well. It is a tragedy we don't have more of Sappho's poetry.
That had me crying
I love this! I have always thought how great it would be if someone would animate what we see on the pottery! Thank you so much for this wonderful little tale!
Thank you. Excellent presentation 👏
I've performed several lectures on ancient Greek hoplite warfare which can be seen on my own RUclips channel and I think this is amazing and brilliant! I would love to see this style expand into other Greek historical or mythological events like portraying Thermopylae, the Battle of Champions, the war of fetters, parts of Plataea, the Iliad, or just about anything you could think of! What an imaginative and immersive method of illustrating everything I try to get across to my audiences.
Thanks very much. We’re glad you like it. You’ll find a load more of our vase animations and other materials on our website www.panoply.org.uk. Had a look at your channel, looks like you have a fantastic collection of equipment - very nice :). Feel free to use this or any of the other animations in your lectures.
Amazing! Really Very good job! Olders Spartans Kings say Praiers for this Brilliant piece of Art!
κάλλιστον τό τε μέλος καὶ τὴν προφοράν !
I love the style that copies from the geometric period of greek pottery.
That was fantastic. Incredible
This animation and poem combination is just gorgous! Greetings from Poland
Fantastic ! I just found this vid Loved it every bit
Watching this in accelerated mode, 1.75 or 2... gives it a Modern feel LOL 🤣🤣🤣 Great work, LOVE it♥️♥️♥️
En zie zo is dobbelen en casino spelen tot stand gekomen en ontstaan!
👍 🌹
Absolutely genial!
Very good! but that break dance free style really got me laughing 😄 cause its irrelevant
Nice!
Nice work indeed but the story and the vase you used is wrong. You used Acheloos vase and you made the story of Lernaia Hydra! 😄
Thanks. There's no confusion though. This is the second of eight animations made for the Ure Discovery project at the Ure Museum of Greek Archaeology. School children were free to make up their own stories based on their own interpretation of what they saw on the vases - in this case they chose to combine the myths of Heracles fighting Acheloos and the Lernaia Hydra. There is more about the project on the website.
@@PanoplyVaseAnimationProject And after that we just confirmed why still people confuse Myths (real-acient stories) with fairy-tales... :) Thanks for informing me!
Nice one!
😄 Very good!
Fantastic work!
